love my indo
Tuesday, November 27, 2012
just touched down about an hour ago from indonesia! this trip was rather relaxing and i had lots of fun, exploring new things and places. first thing i have to say is that the things in indonesia are really cheap as compared to the exorbitant prices in singapore. even though the quality of life of the people there is lower than in sg but the people in bandung are really nice and they are happier there too. hmm, quite different from singaporeans who are always unahppy with the life here somehow. the pace of life here is slow! we are people who are so used to rushing everywhere, so the jam was something we had to get used to. DAY 1 touched down in the bandung airport at around 3+ and we got on a bus which brought us to our hotel. the traffic in indonesia is pretty bad, same with jakarta earlier this year, but it gave us more time to catch up with our relatives. hotel was fine, and we went to a nearby shopping mall which took us about 30 mins to get there? the jam was pretty bad. we then went to try local food and all i can say is that the food there is quite salty. walked a bit in the mall because it was pretty late and everyone was exhausted from the travelling so we just bought some necessities and went straight back to the hotel to rest. DAY 2 woke up early to have breakfast at the hotel before heading out for the tour arranged for us! it was a great day! at first we were told that in bandung it was going to rain everyday. but on that day, it was sunny! :) we headed out to hot springs, pretty shiok! at first, i dipped my leg into the 30+ degrees water and then i went to dip my leg into the 40+ degrees one. hahaha, it was so freaking hot, not kidding. i felt like my leg was scalded, it was burning hot. but i managed to stay inside for 5-10 mins before i took my leg out and both legs had 2 skin tones on it lol. the part that was soaked turned really red. there was even a board listing all the chemistry elements that was present in the hot springs lol, only that it was written in bahasar indonesia. after that, we left to see the crater of Tangkuban Parahu Mountain. there were a lot of people holding out things and just walking to you, persuading you to buy. i was quite impressed by how persistent they were actually. if in sg, i'm pretty sure the people wouldn't even try. we had to transfer to a small car to drive us up to see the crater. after we reached, it was so beautiful! it started to drizzle a little bit and cos we were all the way up at the mountain, it was a bit cold. reminded me of europe last year which we would be practising for the trip on 6 dec '11 (aww, i miss it so much). it was pretty cold up on the mountain! in europe, it was the same kind of coldness except that i had my winter coat and layers of clothing but in bandung, i was just wearing a long sleeve shirt and shorts. oh and we went down to the tea plantation after that. oh my gosh, the tea plantation was SO huge and the scenery was SO beautiful. it was just a majestic view and so relaxing for your soul. i think i would want to live in such a scenic place for one month. maybe switzerland or somewhere. the tour guide who brought us to all these places was really hospitable and friendly! the last place he brought us to was the factory outlet (finally!). we were only given 1 hour of time to shop which was incredibly short. i went in there, saw the huge place to shop and i just went into shop mode. i picked out four items in a short span of 30 mins and tried them out. in the end, i bought all of it hahaha. i picked out two burberry polo tees, one pair of zara jeans and one zara dress. all for $60! incredibly cheap! :) after that, we went back to the hotel to rest for awhile. the next programme was - massage (!!) definitely a first time for me, and i was so excited for it. we went to zen massage and spa, most uncles went for the full body massage while most of us chose the foot massage. the first thing when you enter the place, the scent of peppermint just overwhelms you. nice smell! the massage was damnnnn good. oh man, i was so relaxed and enjoyed it thoroughly! def want to come back next time, maybe after A levels! :) DAY 3 a rather more relaxed day, ate breakfast pretty late and we headed off to another factory outlet! it was bigger than the previous one! this time, we had more time so i took it easy :) i took my time to look through the clothes, picked out a few dresses. there was this pink floral dress which was pretty! too bad it was too short for me :( in the end, i got myself one blouse from H&M, a pair of converse shoes one cardigan and one dress from cotton on. more controlled this time hahaha. altogether i spent 1 million rupiah on all my stuff which is about S$130. after that, we went to this ulu place for lunch. we had to walk through an alley just to get to that restaurant. the food there was really not bad, i'm starting to like their local dishes more each day! quite pricey for home cooked food but nice experience :) the people there they don't eat on tables and chairs. instead, they eat it like kampong style, everyone sitting in a circle on the wooden floor and just enjoying the company of each other. such warmth.. we wanted to go to this local produce shop that sells all the keropok, crackers, etc but our drivers had no idea where it was so we circled the area for an hour before we decided to just head off to another place called holland bakery. apparently it is quite famous for their pastries! went in there and their tiramisu caught my eye. it was huge (like really tall) and it looked really good! they also had this rainbow cake (used to be a trend in sg) where there're just layers of cake in different colours forming the rainbow. not too big a fan of it though, too cumbersome and way too sweet for me. we then left for another mall which was when i joined my fashionable aunties for manicure! hahaha, i painted them electric blue >:) had A&W and then went back to hotel. had loads of fun talking to my uncles, one in particular, he is seriously so crappy but always bring so much fun in every trip! :) in the hotel, i shared the room with my younger cousin and it was nice to chat and catch up with her. we chatted for an hour before we went to sleep, talking about funny stuff about our childhood. since we are both the youngest of the family, it was interesting to see how our older siblings used to bully us :P really hilarious! DAY 4 woke up extremely early at 5.30am (4.30am sg time) to get ready because the bus to the airport was leaving at 7am. in the end, we reached the airport really early like 7.45am because there was no jam! and our flight was at 11am haha. so, we just hang around at the airport. nth much though. so that was basically the end of my holiday in indonesia. it was a good trip overall (except how my phone irritated the shit out of me cos it kept off-ing zzz) and now time to get some rest before thinking about what to do next. i've been eyeing this muffin recipe for quite awhile now but i am just too broke (spending WAY too much on baking). i think i've got to prepare myself mentally to bake cookies for my sis as requested in dec. one person managing hundreds of cookies, i think i will crash lol. and NO MORE COOKIES after that.
