baking, my life in hols so far
Monday, December 3, 2012

dec is here and it is the month of celebration! can't wait for all the exciting activities to happen like carolling, bbqs, gatherings etc! also, it's a time for resting. i'm excited!

i love it when people bake for me hahaha. well, probably because i know exactly the process that happens when someone bakes even if it is something simple, there is still a lot of effort and hard work involved. on fri, lisa came all the way to my doorstep and passed me a box of cookies! i was really touched by that because it is VERY rare that someone bakes for me. so far, there are only two people who baked for me before - natasha and lisa. awww love them both they are just so sweet! i still rmb very vividly that natasha baked me little chocolate chip muffins for my birthday few years back which tasted really good! :)

to me, i think the best gift you can ever make is to bake for someone. firstly, it shows you are sincere if you bake because you put in the effort to actually take the time to think of what you want to make and finding the perfect recipe for it (i can spend hours looking through recipes on the net to look for feasible recipes because there are some ingredients that sg doesn't sell and it is only available in US or AUS) also, everything is done by yourself (unless you get your mum or someone to help you). haha in my case, physical strength is involved too because my equipments are quite cui which is ironic because i bake a lot. i actually use a hand mixer and not a stand mixer that most people have so yes it's good exercise for my arms :) so anyway, not everyone does this but i love to package what i bake nicely and as said earlier, shows the time and effort put in. timing is also another factor that people don't usually see. usually, we take a lot of time to get the ingredients, doing the mixture, washing up all the utensils (which is the part i hate the most) and packaging. people tend to only look at the end product and not about the whole process before this end product is produced which i feel is quite sad because they don't fully appreciate it. lastly, it is whether the end product is successful or not. most people i know who bakes like to try many times before they give it to other people. they bake many batches and let their family taste and comment before settling on their most successful one. hahah for me, i don't do that. most of the time i bake things that i've never done it before and i don't try it before giving it. it's quite exciting and i would like to trust that it will be a success.

i love to bake for birthdays or just to thank someone. i believe it's a great way to express your appreciation to someone. although it is something that doesn't last, the memory of it do last, well it is for me. i still rmb the choc chip muffins natasha made very clearly in my mind and i really do appreciate all the hard work she put in for me till this day :) i've baked for quite a number of people - teachers and friends, and i do hope that there will be many more occasions for me to bake. :) and i do wish that i can get to receive more of such presents too!

my holiday so far has been great, pretty much nua-ing wherever i go. i have not touched my tutorials and my notes at all except for friday when i accompanied hui min for consultation. just came back from holiday awhile back and have not been feeling well the past few days. i've had diarrhoea at least twice a day and now sore throat! argh. oh oh something really funny happened last week. i bought a portable charger from gmarket and it was delivered on thursday. apparently, there were two parcels and one was my portable charger and the other was a jacket LOL. free gift? it was so strange. but hey, free clothes! looked not too bad!

quite a number of people said that i've grown taller recently, which was pretty surprising ever since the last time i took my height (term 4) i was shorter by 1cm hahah. i thought i've stopped growing which i should have hmm. i believe that i've gained weight too from eating junk and nice desserts (YUM). gotta eat in moderation!

gonna end off this post with a poem that i read and this reminded me of so many people who've impacted my life. having to say goodbye to them is the hardest..

Goodbye, Farewell

Farewell is beautiful
A glimpse into the future
Farewell is wonderful
It sets for Adventure

Goodbye is sad
A dive into the past
Goodbye is hard
It memories cast

For old faces must go
Yet new places to go

A chapter opened
And a chapter closed

O Farewell O farewell
How nice if I could tomorrow tell

O Goodbye O goodbye
In thou sweet memories lie

For us you take backward
And make to the past hold
Farewell a' forward
To face the future bold

And today
Yes verily day
With feelings set at bay
These very words I say

Farewell and goodbye
Goodbye and farewell

I say with pleasure and pain
Yes with tears
With grief and joy
Tears of grief and joy
