Fever just suddenly hit me last Saturday during youth service which left me rather helpless lying on my bed the next few days. Took quite a number of Panadol, kept praying to be well and I felt a little better on Sunday so I went down for choir practice and jj's 21st party. Well.. I returned home more sick and didn't leave my bed till today. I guess I actually needed a break and rest. As I was lying on my bed scrolling youtube, I was recalling old choir songs and chanced upon 'Pamugun' sung by the Philippine Madrigal Singers (Madz). I learnt this song very briefly last year for a competition tour in Europe before I dropped out. Incredibly difficult song, Madz constantly blows my mind. They're a small group with a unique style of sitting in a semicircle, without a conductor standing to conduct yet their rhythm is insanely tight and their voices produce the finest sounds. If you can appreciate, do check out this song 'Pamugun' and listen at the beginning when the guys come in 'ding gan ding gan...' with such precision and how all sections gradually come in and voices merge to this really gorgeous sound. This song is depicting the scene where a hunter chasing a bird and the bird is taunting the hunter etc. Like you, I don't understand what they're singing but the thing about Madz is that they paint a picture for you through their singing.
SO glad I got to see them live 2 years back.
