I've been into instrumentals these days. I find it fascinating to listen to guitarists and drummers just doin their thing. It's so lovely to be transported into another time and space - my mind wanders off as the music and their flow is simply captivating. They're essentially telling a story without using any words. Their story is different to everyone who listens to them, but their passion remains as the core of who they are. I love that.

This video here makes me so happy. So so happy I have no idea why. Actually maybe I do - that music transcends boundaries, language, countries and I really like one of the comments - they're speaking to each other through their guitars. I mean, a Korean and a Japanese guitarist just hanging out and playing some insane tunes. That's what music does, ahhhh I love it.

Change the World - Eric Clapton

Chatted with this guy from California few days back and it simply blew my mind. First of all, he knows where Singapore is. Ok I apologise if I assume everyone's geography is not perfect, but I've never heard of a westerner who knew that much about Singapore AND would want to live here in a heartbeat. He said "My wife and I love it here. Your transport is immaculate and it's so clean you could lick off those floors." I was SO intrigued and replied back, "You'll find the cost of living here to be so high, easily spending $100k on a car for 10 years". To my biggest surprise, he knew about COE and how ridiculous and skyrocketed prices are for car and property. He was like, "It makes sense, doesn't it? It's to keep cars off the road." MIND BLOWN. Because I know most people wouldn't understand this concept of how you purchase something and it's not yours for life. I mean, housing and cars here aren't yours. You pay a bomb for them - to live in a house for 99 years and drive a car for 10 years. I'm so amazed, this conversation will be one to remember for sure.

One week ago, it was Singapore's 53rd birthday. Happy birthday, Singapore! We're a young nation, and most of our parents are older than this country. I always find it truly amazing how we've transformed from a fishing village into a developed first world country, one of the financial hubs in Asia. Although life here isn't perfect and so is our government - but what I love and will always appreciate is the security. I love it that I feel safe. In today's context, is definitely a tall order. I'm able to walk home at 12am/1am and not have to worry SO much about getting mugged or kidnapped (this still happens I know, I mean low crime isn't no crime). Even though people say Singaporeans are very cold and "bochup", I've read several incidents where people accidentally leaving their wallets/phones in the toilets and they found it at the exact same place hours later. This kind of stories make me so happy (or maybe because we simply don't care so we don't take your belongings). Of course, there's the downsides - workaholic nation, stressful (as Asians are known for), almost negligible arts & culture scene here, rigid lifestyle. The list goes on and on but I'm just thankful to have a roof over my head, a family, an education and right now - a full-time job to feed myself. I always have to remind myself once in awhile to see the silver lining in everything and not focus on all the negatives. That's what life is, right?
